‘Falling Up’ to vie at OSCAR-qualifying festival

Iranian short film ‘Falling Up’ is to vie at the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, an Oscar-qualifying event in the United States.

Iranian short film ‘Falling Up’ has made its way to the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, an Oscar-qualifying event in the United States.

The Iranian Youth Cinema Society reported that ‘Falling Up’, directed by Maryam Bakhtiari, will vie in the 41st edition of the US event.

According to the film’s director, ‘Falling Up’ is about people who can’t overcome past hardships and take advantage of their time.

‘Falling Up’ previously took part in the 39th edition of Tehran International Short Film Festival, the 20th Tirana International Film Festival in Albania, the 52nd Sehsuechte, an international student film festival in Germany, and the 19th Nahal International Student Film Festival in Iran in which it won the best director award and two diplomas of honor.

Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival is “one of the Best International Film Festivals and top 10 Short Film Festivals in the United States”, an online submission platform reads.

It was selected as a qualifying festival for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2002.

The 41st edition of the festival will take place on August 7-13.
